Internship Site Visit to the Ministry of Commerce: Bridging Legal Education with Practical Experience

Thanyaluck Thongrompo, partner and head of regulatory, permits and licensing and Sirapat Chaisarnseri, associate of the firm led a record group of  interns on an in-depth site visit to the Ministry of Commerce, where they explored three pivotal departments central to Thailand’s business regulatory landscape. This rare exposure to the inner workings of key public sector institutions provided our interns with an exceptional learning opportunity that few legal internship programs offer.

The visit began at the Department of Business Development (DBD), where interns gained valuable insights into the processes involved in establishing a business in Thailand via DBD Biz Regist platform. The session covered essential aspects of company registration, offering interns a practical understanding of the legal requirements and regulatory framework for business formation. Additionally, the discussion addressed the application process for foreign business licenses, offering a comprehensive overview of the legal framework governing foreign direct investment in Thailand.

In the afternoon, the group visited the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) where interns were introduced to various forms of intellectual property protection. The session featured expert-led discussions, a guided tour of the DIP registration area, and brief consultations with the Intellectual Property Advisory Center (IPAC), allowing interns to explore the registration process in greater detail.

The final stop was the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT), where interns gained insights into Thailand’s role in global commerce. Officials outlined key responsibilities in regulating international trade and walked the group through operational procedures, providing a practical view of how trade laws and agreements are enforced.

This immersive visit offers our law student interns a rare and invaluable opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with real-world legal practice. By engaging directly with key regulatory bodies and observing the implementation of business and trade laws, the interns gained a deeper understanding of Thailand’s legal and regulatory framework.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our partner Thanyaluck Thongrompo and the internship committee for their leadership and meticulous coordination. Their dedication played a pivotal role in transforming this visit into a truly enriching experience—one that will leave a lasting impact on the interns’ legal education and future careers.
