Guest lecturer on “Why International Arbitration? A Practitioner’s Perspective” at Thammasat University

Practitioner’s Perspective

On January 10, 2023, Emi Rowse (Igusa), Partner and head of Japan practice at Kudun and Partners, was invited by Professor Amnart Tangkiriphimarn, Vice Dean for International Programs and Director of the LL.B. Program in Business Law (International Program), Thammasat University, to speak as a guest lecturer on the topic of “Why International Arbitration? A practitioner’s perspective”.

The session was conducted for second and third year law students at Thammasat University’s Faculty of Law and it was the first time for many of these students to learn about international arbitration. During the lecture, Emi introduced the students to fundamental aspects of international arbitration, what a career in arbitration looks like and what skills are needed to become a good arbitration practitioner. Emi also shared how psychology can play a significant role in arbitration, particularly in relation to cognitive biases that come into play and how psychological tools can be used to enhance the chances of success for an arbitration case.
